Afghanistan’s oldest Muslim political party condemns attack on three Shia clerics at Imam Reza shrine

The head of the Jamiat-E-Islami (Islamic Society) of Afghanistan has criticized the terrorist attack against three Iranian religious scholars in the holy shrine of Imam Reza, saying that such a tragic event is rooted in the deviant ideas of the takfiri currents.

On the third day of the holy month of Ramadan, three clerics were the target of a knife attack in the courtyard of the Holy Prophet of Imam Reza’s holy shrine in Mashhad, northeastern Iran.

Following the terrorist attack on three scholars and religious students in the courtyard of the holy shrine of Razavi, Mashhad, on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, Salahuddin Rabbani, the head of the Jamiat-E-Islami (Islamic Society) of Afghanistan in a message expressed his condolences to the Iranian nation for this tragic event.

“Having heard the news of the terrorist attack against three religious scholars and students in the courtyard of Imam Reza (AS) Holy Shrine in Mashhad, Islamic Republic of Iran, which resulted in the martyrdom of one and the injury of two others, has caused deep sadness and grief,” the message read.

“Such tragic events, which are rooted in the deviant ideas of takfiri currents, compel us more than ever to take seriously the danger of militant extremism,” the message adds.

Calling Afghanistan a prime example of religious tolerance, Rabbani further noted that the Asian country has unfortunately been the main victim of extremist groups for almost two and a half decades.

Finally, condemning this terrorist attack, the senior Afghan official offered his condolences to the family of the late martyr Mohammad Aslani, to the government and people of the Islamic Republic of Iran and asked Almighty God to heal the injured of this tragic incident.
