BREAKING: Prominent political party suspends national president, secretary, gives important reason

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has suspended the party’s national chairman, Olu Ogunloye, and secretary, Shehu Gabam, for alleged misconduct.
The NEC has also unanimously appointed the party’s vice chairman, Abdul Isaq, as acting party leader and Simon Adesina as national secretary, pending the outcome of its convention scheduled for April 27-29, 2022, reported The Punch.
Legit.ng collects that Ogunloye and Gabam were accused of ignoring the provisions of the SDP constitution.

Meanwhile, the SPC NEC also revoked the appointment of National Working Committee members namely National Youth Leader Okechukwu Ogbonna and National Publicity Secretary Rufus Aiyegba.

He therefore mandated the National Working Committee to appoint more members.
The NEC also ordered that all state chairpersons, leaders of any allegedly suspended party organ shall not be acceptable and any notices or communications in this regard shall be null and void and of no effect.
The SDP is preparing to reposition the party before 2023
Explaining the NEC’s decision, Isaq promised to reposition the party ahead of the 2023 general election.
“It’s the second most powerful body in the party and they’ve made their decision. It will be a team effort. So the credit will go to everyone.

“We have quite a few resourceful people in this party and you will see what will happen in Nigeria. And I want to promise you that this party is next for this country.”
SDP suspends chairman and secretary from Anambra
In a related development, the SDP national leadership in October 2021 approved the suspension of Wester Okonkwo and Kay Anyachor, chairman and secretary of the party’s Anambra State chapter respectively.
The duo were suspended over allegations of “anti-party activities” 13 days before the Anambra State Governor’s election.
Shehu Musa Gabam, national secretary of the SDP, explained in a letter that Okonkwo and Anyachor showed blatant insubordination and a lack of ability to unite the party.
