Naga Policy Issue: Responsibility Now on CCoNPI, Says Therie | MorungExpress
Dimapur, September 13 (MExN): The outcome of the Core Committee on Naga Political Issue (CCoNPI) meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah “appears to be almost zero”, NPCC Chairman K Therie observed on Tuesday.
Criticizing the Indian government’s decision to give the CCoNPI the task of convincing the NSCN (IM), Therie said the “GoI should not hand over its responsibilities”.
Therie said negotiations have taken place between the GoI and the Naga National Workers and it is the responsibility of the GoI to sit down with the NSCN (IM) and work out the detailed arrangements as agreed in the framework agreement.
He said the signatories of the accord signed on behalf of the Indian government, the Indian people and the Nagas and they cannot be allowed to betray the people. “We only require that the solution be implemented. Both parties are afraid to withdraw from the agreement but do not want to implement it either. We demand that the solution be implemented before the election,” Therie asserted.
However, since the Central Committee has accepted the responsibility of persuading the NSCN (IM) instead of pressuring the Indian government to fulfill its responsibility, “it is now the responsibility of the Central Committee. If the main committee fails, all the blame will be on them,” the chairman of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress committee said in a press release.
In the meantime, NSCN(IM) should fulfill the pledge of October 31, 2019 so that the Nagas can march towards peace and progress in development activities, employment of unemployed youth and making a better place for children. “We cannot continue to suffer without hope,” he added.
