Signs of revanchism are visible in Armenian society, in their political spectrum
BAKOU, Azerbaijan, December 15
Signs of revanchism are visible in Armenian society, in their political spectrum, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with Spanish newspaper El Pais, Trend reports.
“More than a year has passed since the end of the war and the general situation is relatively stable. If we are talking about the area of responsibility of Russian peacekeeping forces in the Karabakh region, the situation is more stable than on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan. And the reason is that Armenia, unfortunately, has not suppressed attempts at revenge. Their loss in the Second Karabakh War was very painful for them. It absolutely demolished their ideological foundations, their propaganda for almost 30 years on the unbeatable army, on their strength, on the bravery of their soldiers and their commanders. Because during the 44 days of war, the Armenian army was totally destroyed and they had to sign the act of surrender on November 10, agreeing in fact to return the territories that we failed to reconquer during the 44 days of war. Therefore, signs of revanchism are visible in Armenian society, in their political spectrum. Therefore, knowing that in the area where Russian peacekeepers are serving, this is not possible. They are trying to create provocations, military provocations at the state border. Another problem is that the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia has not been identified. Because the occupation of this part of Azerbaijan took place in the early 90s just after the restoration of independence of the two countries. Therefore, physically and politically, it was not possible to demarcate and demarcate the border. Therefore, when the second Karabakh war ended last November, the climatic situation in this part of the region was different from others, ”President Ilham Aliyev said.
“It’s high mountain and it was full of snow. So the snow started to melt in May of this year. As soon as this happened, Azerbaijani forces moved towards the state border and took up a position on the state border based on our understanding of the direction of that border. So, that was history and unfortunately Armenia started to claim that Azerbaijan interferes in the territory of Armenia without any motive. So now we are where we think it is our territory. From the first days of the end of the Karabakh war, we offered to Armenia to start working on the delimitation, to establish a joint working group on the delimitation and to clarify all the differences on the table. More than a year after the end of the war, Armenia made several attempts to carry out military provocations on the state border. All of them have failed. As a result of all these attempts, they lost their military positions, and Azerbaijan reinforced this position on the state border. The same thing happened last month, when they deliberately provoked Azerbaijani forces. It went on for several days and for the first few days there was no shooting, just Azerbaijani soldiers explained to them that it was not their territory, that they had to leave and they left, ”said the President of Azerbaijan.
“But they started to fire artillery fire at us and we made several victims and several wounded. Now the situation is stable. We haven’t planned anything ourselves. Otherwise, we wouldn’t stop. The November 16 clash lasted less than a day. It started in the morning and ended around 6-7 p.m. So, if we had planned it, we would not have stopped, because Armenia does not have the military capacity to stop us in any destination. We don’t have this plan, so we stopped. We want peace and enough of war is over. We want stability, predictability and zero risk for any kind of attempt by Armenia to take retaliatory measures. We will therefore follow very closely all their maneuvers, all their regroupings and all their attempts to recreate the military potential which can be a danger for us. If we see this happening we will destroy it immediately and they know it. And international players know it. If we see a positive dynamic, we will certainly benefit from it and contribute to the strengthening of peace ”, declared the Head of State.
